Role:
Side by Side Kids – Youth Development Leader (Part Time)
Purpose of the Position: Lead and facilitate a safe, caring environment where students can grow academically, build positive relationships, and develop an understanding of God’s love.
Job Summary: Lead a classroom of 10–15 students in the Side by Side Kids after school program, manage classroom dynamics, deliver faith‑based lessons, maintain safety, and collaborate with program staff.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage an after school classroom of 10 to 15 students
- Use classroom management skills to create a fun and productive environment for learning
- Provide supervision for students in the Side by Side Kids program to ensure safety and program effectiveness
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures due to COVID-19 that have been put in place to minimize risk
- Thoroughly read the provided curriculum and faith‑based lessons and prepare for each week’s lesson
- Account for all program supplies and ensure that all classrooms are left the same condition as found
- Serve as a role model for students by upholding the highest standards in speech, professional appearance, and interactions with the Youth Development Leader as well as with AISD staff
- Follow and support the discipline system utilized by the SBSK After school Program
- Follow and support SBSK Emergency Procedures established by the SBSK After school Program
- Report any suspected abuse or neglect of SBSK program students to a supervisor and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
- Complete daily reports and communicate daily operations with Program Coordinator
- Secure substitute teachers in the event of an absence
- Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development
- All other duties assigned
This part‑time position requires up to 10 to 25 hours of work a week depending on availability and assigned campus. SBSK offers schedules Monday–Friday, 2:30 pm–6:00 pm and other staff may work MWF and/or Tuesday/Thursday schedules. Length of employment is at minimum 1 school semester.
Work SiteAssigned elementary school within the Austin Independent School District or off‑site after school campus.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Experience working with children and/or youth in a school setting, after school program or mentoring program
- Ability to move around a classroom with ease and be accessible to students
- Ability to bend, reach, or stretch for supplies and other various objects, as well as lift or carry at least 40 pounds
- Love for working with children and leading them in Christ‑like behavior
- Exceptional communication and people skills
- Execute sound judgement when problem solving or making decisions
- High level of professionalism
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to give constructive feedback as well as receive
- Teachable and willingness to adapt and learn
- Bilingual (English‑Spanish) speaking candidates highly encouraged to apply (with added compensation)
- Personal relationship with Jesus and communing member of the body of Christ
- Understand and be able to support a Christ‑centered curriculum that communicates the Gospel
- Training and equipping available on how to share the Gospel, once employed at SBSK understand, agree, and promote SBSK values
