Summary

The VA Central Texas Health Care System is seeking a Radiology Diagnostic (Deputy Chief) for the Imaging Service at the Austin VA Clinic. Recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized for highly qualified individuals. The Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) is authorized; eligibility requires submission of an application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but can be hired only after all requirements are met. Current VA physicians who met prior qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • United States citizenship:
    Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
  • Education:

    Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school in the year of completion.
  • License:
    Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency training:
    Completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Eligible residencies include ACGME, AOA, and other residency programs with at least five years of verified U.S. practice.
  • Residents in accredited residency programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) – fully licensed, intermittent or fee‑basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners but perform restricted duties under supervision.
  • English language proficiency:
    Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience:

    Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology; at least one year in a leadership or supervisory position; wide experience interpreting CT, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound, GI/GU; one year of experience in healthcare administration.
  • Physical requirements:

    Primarily sedentary with light lifting (
