Overview:

The Drafting Associate supports our design and construction teams for our branded retail / commercial rollout programs by preparing accurate construction drawings, site plans and permit documents for commercial projects. This role bridges design intent and field execution by translating concepts, redlines and engineering input into clear, buildable drawings that support permitting, estimating and construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and update construction drawing, site plans, and permit sets for commercial projects.
  • Convert sketches, redlines, field notes and design concepts into detailed CAD/Revit drawings.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy across all phases (concept, permit, construction, as-builts)
  • Revise drawings based on internal reviews, jurisdiction comments, and field condition.
  • Assist the design and preconstruction teams with layouts studies, test fits and site planning.
  • Support permit submissions by ensuring drawing completeness and jurisdictional compliance.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers and consultants to integrate design inputs.
  • Assist estimators and project managers by providing clear, constructible documents.
  • Ensure drawings align with project scope, specifications and company standards.
  • Identify conflicts, discrepancies or constructability issues and flag them early.
  • Maintain organized digital files and version control across projects.
  • Incorporate field redlines and RFIs into updated drawing sets.
  • Assist with layout clarification and detailing to support construction teams.
  • Represent the company's brand through professional, accurate and timely documentation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, symbols and detailing.
  • Knowledge of commercial building systems and site development.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, structural and MEP drawings.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:

1–3 years in architectural drafting, production design, or closely related role (internships count). Portfolio required with application.
  • Software:
Proficient in Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD for 2D/3D production; working ability in Sketch Up for quick massing / visualization.
  • Document Tools:
Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam Revu for markups; familiarity with Google Earth or similar for site context.
  • Construction Literacy:
Basic understanding of building assemblies, materials, and construction sequencing; able to coordinate drawing details across disciplines.
  • Plan Reading:
Able to read and interpret surveys, civil grading plans, utility plans, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Productivity Apps:
Basic Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) for communication and tracking.
  • Exposure to municipal permit processes: filling out applications, navigating online submittal portals, tracking status.
  • Basic understanding of building and zoning code concepts (occupancy, egress, fire separations, ADA / accessibility).
  • Interior / fixture design experience or coursework.
  • Familiarity with multi‑site rollout or prototype‑based design programs.
