Annual Salary: $75,000 - $120,000 (range may vary)
General DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Cultural Resources Program Director, the Preservation Services Team Lead performs advanced (senior‑level) administrative and supervisory program work. This position establishes team goals, objectives, and activities; supervises and evaluates Preservation Services staff; and ensures professional application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, the Antiquities Code of Texas, and the National Historic Preservation Act. Responsibilities include serving as liaison to the Texas Historical Commission and other agencies, overseeing historical research planning, guiding technical assessment and preservation projects across the state parks system, directing repair and restoration work, planning and budgeting for preservation projects, managing the Preservation Services budget and project budgets, writing scopes of work and performance specifications for consultants, managing consultant contracts, reviewing projects impacting historic properties, ensuring adherence to preservation practices and relevant codes, identifying and investigating Areas of Potential Effect (APEs), conducting field inspections, reviewing design and specification materials, providing assistance to the state parks minor repair program, establishing maintenance protocols, advocating for the importance of history and research, and managing a database of historic information.
The position also conducts workshops using state park sites as preservation projects, works under limited supervision, and may perform additional duties as assigned. All work complies with State, Agency, Division, and Program rules and regulations.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, or historic design from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Five years evaluating built resources for historical significance and architectural integrity; two years supervising staff or preservation‑related projects.
