Overview

In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient), and staff across all disciplines and departments, the dental hygienist is responsible for performing dental prophylactic services in a dental clinic. Please note that full PPE, including N95 masks and face shields, are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver oral hygiene services, including evaluation of teeth and gums, recording presence of disease, abnormalities, and restorations.
  • Take, develop, and mount X-rays; perform dental prophylaxis.
  • Perform procedures to comply with infection control policies and prepare operatories for patient treatment.
  • Accurately and completely report and document patient status, care rendered, response to care, provider orders, and contacts with patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain patient follow-up procedures.
  • Instruct clients in proper dental hygiene practices and procedures pertinent to provided treatments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Complete all care documentation in a timely manner, ensuring patient records are current and complete.
    • Attend daily patient care huddles, clinic meetings, patient conferences, and planning sessions related to quality assurance and patient care.
    • Maintain licensure and certifications through continuing education and best practices.
    • Participate in quality improvement strategies to evaluate compliance with evidence-based guidelines and improve patient outcomes.
    • Ensure all tasks comply with regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission and Comm Unity Care  policies.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, clinical managers, support staff, providers, and patients.
    • Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families.
    • Collaborate with the care team to provide patient-centered care.

    Essential Functions / Key Competencies:

    • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
    • Proficiency in performing assigned dental tasks.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Computer literacy for data entry and information retrieval.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum Education: Graduation from a certified dental hygiene course.
    • Preferred Education: [Specify if applicable]
    • Minimum Experience: Previous dental hygiene experience.
    • Preferred Experience: [Specify if applicable]
    • Required Certifications/Licensure: Current Texas registration as a Dental Hygienist, including certification for sealants. Maintain certifications during employment.
    • Required Courses/Certifications: Current healthcare provider CPR certification, maintained during employment.
