Job Summary

The Civil Construction Estimator in Austin, Texas assists with the administrative function of current projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take‑offs for bid projects. This position supports project teams and works with vendors and personnel from other departments.

Responsibilities

Candidate MUST have Civil Construction Estimation experience.

  • Prepare accurate take‑off materials, subcontracting, and production items for projects.
  • Acquire plans for projects.
  • Bid accurately using Bid2

    Win software or comparable tools.
  • Prepare and deliver bids.
  • Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for projects.
  • Assist operations in administrative duties on projects.
  • Furnish bid information for tracking purposes, follow the bid process, and work on improving the bid process.
  • Prepare job files for operations.
  • Keep job log up‑to‑date.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience and proficiency with Bid2

    Win (bidding) software.
  • Knowledge of methods and specifications in the utility construction field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables where only standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, business management skills, and general knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
  • Previous utility construction project estimator experience.
  • Efficient and proficient use of Bid2

    Win software and other comparable tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment and requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting. The role is physically active, requiring the ability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 pounds; clear vision at 20 feet or more or at 20 inches or less; precise hand‑eye coordination; and the ability to distinguish colors. Working in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind) is part of the job.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job.
