Position
Description
The Construction Inspector position supports construction inspection across multiple projects with a primary focus on building, roads, and bridges at various airports. Inspectors read and interpret drawings, applicable building codes, ADA requirements, contract specifications, and shop structural drawings; verify compliance with the contract documents; and communicate effectively with Contractors, engineers, architects, and project management staff. Documents daily progress of the work, prepares monthly progress payment requests, tracks changes, verifies time and material work, and measures and documents job quantities.
Computer literacy may be required to retrieve and manage information.
- Create and maintain comprehensive daily inspection reports that capture the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of construction activities, ensuring reports clearly reflect daily progress.
- Assist in reviewing monthly progress payment requests when assigned to a program.
- Track changes, verify time and material work, measure and document job quantities.
- Conduct special inspections across various disciplines.
- Possess experience, knowledge, and understanding of methods used in construction.
- Inspect reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, structural steel and welding, sprayed fireproofing, drilled-in anchors, seismic resistance, and related components.
- QC inspections to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, and environmental documents; may provide inspection support.
- Review contract documents using computer tools (e.g., change orders, submittals, RFIs) with minimal supervision.
Other duties as required. May work various shifts (day, swing, night) and modified schedules as dictated by contractors’ activities and project schedules. Availability to work overtime to meet deadlines is preferred.
Required Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent; technical school or associate degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience inspecting buildings, roads, and/or bridge projects.
- 30-hour Cal-OSHA training prior to assignment (within last 4 years).
- ICC certifications preferred.
- Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection and document control (e.g., PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam).
- Ability to interpret construction schedules; strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; professional conduct with stakeholders.
- Experience addressing code violations and ensuring construction meets required standards; relevant industry certifications.
- Fall protection and harness training;
Confined Space Entry Training.
