Summary

This is a fully onsite role and will report into our office in Austin, TX. With that being said, you will spend a significant portion of your time meeting clients and prospects in the field. While your administrative and team collaboration tasks will take place at our office, your primary focus will be building relationships and driving revenue through in-person interactions.

Our Strategic Growth team is the face of the company and the engine of our market expansion. As a Strategic Growth Manager, you are directly responsible for driving net-new revenue. In its simplest form, the SGM’s role is to bring top producing agents to Compass by effectively selling the Compass value proposition (technology, marketing, culture and growth). Successful SGMs influence top agents to leave their current brokerage and join Compass.

Since every agent is an independent contractor they can take their business wherever they receive the best value and support. The refreshing part of this sale is that you are working directly with decision-makers, thus eliminating many of the hassles of selling to large corporations.

Responsibilities
  • Onsite role based in Austin, TX, with significant field-facing activities meeting clients and prospects.
  • Build relationships and drive revenue through in-person interactions.
  • Drive net-new revenue as a Strategic Growth Manager by bringing top-producing agents to Compass.
  • Effectively communicate the Compass value proposition (technology, marketing, culture and growth) to agents and decision-makers.
  • Influence agents to leave their current brokerage and join Compass, recognizing agents operate as independent contractors.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to streamline the sales process and address agent needs during the decision-making cycle.
Metrics
  • This is a quota-carrying role. Quota is based on the number of principal agents you successfully bring to Compass; deal sizes range from $200k to $3M+, with an average time to close of about 30 days.
  • Quotas can be met by onboarding individual agents or large agent teams. Quotas are based on the prior 12 months’ performance of the agent or team and are not contingent upon future production once at Compass.
  • Responsibilities include helping agents understand why their business and clients benefit from moving to Compass.
Nuances
  • The sales process involves direct interaction with decision-makers, requiring empathy, patience, listening, agility, and focus.
  • Patience and strategic decoupling of an agent from a long-standing brokerage may be needed, particularly for top producers with deep brand affiliation.
  • The role attracts candidates from diverse backgrounds and combines high IQ and EQ to achieve results.
  • Compass’s momentum suggests SGMs can generate substantial revenue per head compared with typical tech firms.
Qualifications
  • B.A. or B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a glass-half-full mentality
  • Self-starter with the ability to exercise judgment and solve problems without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to lead client meetings and presentations
  • Highly organized; able to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines
  • Proven track record of excellence across strategic, operational, and detail-focused responsibilities
