Position: RRC - Customer Service Rep I

Overview

The Railroad Commission of Texas seeks a Customer Service / Oil and Gas Records Custodian to perform various duties in the Files area related to the processing, editing, quality control review, shipping, and receiving of various records related to the RRC. Tasks could be related to various imaging projects of historical records or newly created documents. Central Records also maintains microfilm and microfiche, and digital data encompassing the history of each Texas oil and natural gas well and other related documents.

The ongoing imaging program will image and index each of the records in this system to provide online digital access via the internet.

Responsibilities
  • Preserves historical information by preparing documents for imaging.
  • Performs key entry work using an internet-based application.
  • Conducts quality assurance work on imaged documents.
  • Assist Commission staff and the general public with inquiries received in person, by phone, mail, and/or via the internet pertaining to information contained in the RRC digital data system, microfilm, and microfiche.
  • Assist the public at the agency receptionist desk as needed.
  • Assist the public at the Research counter as needed.
  • Performs additional tasks, as assigned, to maintain workflow.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional protocol.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office and other Windows-based PC software applications.
  • Skill in word processing and mainframe terminal operation.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in working on tasks requiring meticulous attention to detail and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyze acquired information from hard files, microfilm and computer database.
  • Ability to visually discern colors and work with written materials.
  • Ability to learn and understand oil and gas policy and procedures and interpret processes.
  • Ability to accurately file, sort, alphabetize, organize, and distribute documents and retrieve files.
  • Ability to operate copy machine, fax, and other general office equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to lift, reach low and high, push and pull heavy file drawers and/or cart.
  • Ability to work around equipment generating heat, noise, and bright reflective lights.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM at RRC headquarters.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    High School diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of professional office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    General knowledge of Oil and Gas Division functions;
    Detailed familiarity with the required forms and filing procedures;
    Experience in the operation of various types of micrographics equipment;
    Past participation in complex document imaging projects;
    Experience conducting quality assurance tasks;
    Experience in filing, sorting, alphabetizing, organizing, and distributing documents and retrieving files.
  • Remarks:
    Work hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM at RRC headquarters in Austin. Alternate schedules and telework may be available per the agency Telework Plan.
