Serves as a member of the Education Services team, Veterans Education Department of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC). Performs complex, journey‑level staff services work, including planning and coordinating staff services functions such as managing travel accounting, requisitioning, training, property management, and preparing confidential documentation. Also performs human resource functions such as planning and coordinating leave requests, personnel action requests, initiating Family Medical Leave Act documents, and tracking and coordinating performance reviews.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provides administrative support and technical assistance for the Director and management staff of the Veterans Education Department.
- Coordinates activities among leadership, management, and staff to support day‑to‑day operations.
- Arranges and coordinates meetings and events for the Director and Operations Manager; collects and maintains read‑ahead materials and documentation.
- Maintains calendar scheduling for the Director and Operations Manager.
- Prepares, edits, or revises correspondence, technical materials, documents, reports, and forms.
- Coordinates travel for the Director and Operations Manager; prepares travel authorizations, vouchers, and itineraries.
- Coordinates travel for department staff; collects and reviews staff travel authorizations and vouchers and makes appropriate hotel, rental, and flight reservations in accordance with travel policies.
- Manages travel projections and expenditure records.
- Manages department supplies, including preparing purchase requisitions and reconciling receipt reports.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in human resources, public or business administration, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year‑by‑year basis. College transcripts are required and must be provided before an interview can be extended.
Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of office management or executive support work; three (3) years of experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and databases; experience conducting internet research.
Additional Requirements: Valid Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of hire; work hours may extend beyond 8 a.m.–5 p.m., including occasional weekend, evening, or overnight travel.
Preferred Experience and
Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree; experience as a time administrator utilizing the State Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS); certified Microsoft Office Specialist; customer service experience; knowledge of Veterans’ Education benefits; knowledge of Texas Veterans Commission; honorably discharged veteran.
