Accountant IV (Cash Disbursement Accountant)
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is seeking a Cash Disbursement Accountant within the Financial Management Department. The role performs complex (journey-level) accounting work, preparing financial statements, records, documents, purchase vouchers, and reports. The accountant may specialize in federal funds accounting, property and equipment control, cost, payroll, or bond servicing and provides guidance to others while working under general supervision.

What Your Contributions to the GLO Will Be- Audits expenditure and financial documents for accuracy, including classifying and balancing codes and enters financial transactions accordingly to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes.
- Maintains adequate records of disbursements, funds, appropriations, and purchase orders; prepares reports of disbursement transactions; analyzes and recommends improvements to accounting systems and accompanying procedures.
Reconciles accounts, bank statements, and appropriation balances; researches discrepancies and reports findings.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from a four-year college/university with major course work in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Two (2) years full-time experience in accounting and financial operations.
- Full-time Accounting or closely related experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Two (2) or more years with a State of Texas or higher education agency to include Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel system (CAPPS) experience.
- Two (2) or more years of Accounts Payable/Purchase Order processing experience.
- Two (2) or more years of Microsoft Excel experience.
- Two (2) or more years of Microsoft Access experience.
This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the worksite) is routinely required to carry out some duties. The position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact and communication. It requires the ability to move and position oneself as needed for filing and similar routine office duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.
It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to read printed materials and computer screens. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and all related information and materials weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
