Do you enjoy working with your hands? Do you have a natural knack for fixing and repairing things? Are you interested in a career as a diesel technician? Yancey has multiple apprenticeship opportunities that offer classroom and hands-on training to prepare you to work as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician.
Starting pay is $18-$23 per hour with scheduled increases at the 6-month and 12-month marks. All apprentices are provided with a complete set of tools (valued at $8,000) to use during their training and are eligible to keep them after two years of employment. This is a full-time entry level position which allows for advancement through the Yancey career development program after completion.
About the Standard Apprenticeship Program:
- 12-months of one-on-one training with a designated service technician as your mentor in a shop environment.
- Attend five facilitated classes covering: engines, hydraulics, electrical, preventative maintenance, and air conditioning certification.
- Work with your mentor to complete hands-on training and process / procedure experiences to prepare you for a career as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician.
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Meet Yancey employment requirements. All mechanical testing, background checks, driving record checks and drug screening will be conducted.
- Previous mechanical experience.
- Most of your time is spent standing/walking.
- Willing to work in extreme weather conditions and around loud noises.
Physical:
- Will require appropriate Personal Protection Equipment to be worn.
- Able to operate and climb underneath equipment.
- Able to lift, carry, and lower up to 100 lbs.
Travel:
- Not required.
To be successful in this position you should have basic mechanical aptitude and a desire to work in the Heavy Equipment industry as a technician. You should have the drive to learn a new set of skills and be safety conscious. The ability to multitask, problem solve, and provide superior customer service are essential to this position as well.
