Job Summary: The RN Clinical Charge Nurse directs and oversees the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to assure successful safe delivery of care. The Charge Nurse is a caregiver who often takes modified patient care assignments. The role contributes to the establishment and maintenance of practices that ensure excellence in patient care, provides for the efficient use of resources, and undertakes leadership tasks such as staff schedules, unit patient flow, and committee involvement.

Resources and Support

• Monitors equipment inventory, location and utilization to ensure staff have tools and equipment needed to perform their job.
• Participates in planning and requesting resources for providing high quality care and assists in acquiring appropriate staffing during unexpected staffing shortages or surges in census.
• Proactively plans for the care of patients across the care continuum during direct patient care. Participates in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation to achieve best practice outcomes.

Tactical Responsibilities

• Make patient assignments with consideration for new grads, float and type of patient.
• Daily discharge/length of stay review.
• Round with physicians/surgeons.
• Assign surgery beds in conjunction with surgery schedule.
• Consult with supervisor nursing administration on bed flow and availability.
• Emergency services: manage assignments for sections, waiting rooms, and multiple areas open at different times.

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

• Rounds on every patient daily to evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care and initiates corrective action when needed.
• Provides oversight for the nursing process using evidence‑based practice and critical thinking to coordinate individualized care.
• Delivers relationship‑based, patient‑centered care with comprehensive hand‑off communication and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Practices current clinical standards focusing on safety and quality; in emergency settings, rounds in a modified method to address patient safety concerns.

Teamwork and Collaboration

• Communicates needs or concerns to nurse manager or assistant nurse manager promptly.
• Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care, promoting interdisciplinary planning, rounds, and respectful clinical environment.
• Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner, supporting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
• Participates in performance improvement activities, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.

Professional Development

• Ensures patient/family confidentiality and compliance with corporate requirements, completing all mandatory education.
• Upholds the professional nursing practice as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.

Sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance are available for eligible candidates. The Oncology Unit is a twenty‑eight‑bed unit that provides services to adult patients 24 hours a day, accommodates inpatient hospice needs, and offers oncology medical‑surgical telemetry services.
