Wellstar Health System – Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician (RN)
Location:
Atlanta, GA (outpatient infusion center; local travel required). All sites are within 35 miles of Cobb Hospital.
The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy or other designated leader. The role demonstrates knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy, including hazardous drug therapies for malignant and nonmalignant conditions. The RN will regularly administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastic agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies. The RN provides safe patient care with age-appropriate and culturally aware needs and serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff.
All RNs are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards from the American Nurses Association. The nurse upholds patient voice, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals. Attendance at staff meetings, in-services, special projects, and continued education is expected.
This role may serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues.
- Exemplary practice and outcomes: perform the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) with evidence-based care and clinical judgment; coordinate care through effective partnerships.
- Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care aligned with population-specific characteristics (age, gender, disease) and cultural diversity considerations.
- Partner with patient and family using appropriate teaching methods; keep goals central to the plan of care.
- Practice current clinical standards including chemotherapy and targeted therapies for malignant and nonmalignant conditions; meet annual chemotherapy competence requirements.
- Coordinate safe, high-quality patient care and documentation; promote inclusive, respectful clinical environments; participate in interdisciplinary communication and rounds.
- Demonstrate teamwork; practice in a fiscally responsible manner; support recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Engage in performance improvement activities; support shared governance; participate in ongoing education and professional development.
- Complete initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and required education; contribute as a preceptor or mentor for other nurses and staff.
- Cultivate oncology nursing knowledge; pursue continuing education, a specialty oncology certification, or 12 continuing education credits annually.
- Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participate in value analysis and data-driven decision making.
- Uphold system and professional association policies, procedures, and standards; ensure regulatory and accreditation requirements are met (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals, safety absolutes).
- Plan for care across the care continuum while delivering direct patient care.
- Collaborate with care managers and the health care team to develop protocols and procedures aimed at improving outcomes (e.g., reducing readmissions, adverse events).
- Promote efficient use of human and material resources.
Minimum Education
- Associates Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing;
Bachelors is preferred.
- RN licensure (Georgia) or multi-state compact RN licensure.
- BLS — Basic Life Support (or equivalent); instructor credentials as applicable.
- Chemotherapy Competency required through an approved provider (Oncology Nursing Society or Well Star Oncology Nursing Readiness and Safety). Preferred at hire.
- Minimum 2 years direct patient care in a clinical setting; outpatient oncology nursing experience preferred.
