Job Summary

The Director, Lean Site Consultant is an internal site‑level Lean leader and subject matter expert. The role provides leadership to the implementation and governance of Wellstar's Lean Program, driving site‑wide adoption of problem solving and continuous process improvement through facilitation of cross‑functional teams toward sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable results. The Director leads the strategic deployment of the Lean Road Map, supports the site’s strategic plan, and collaborates with Executive Sponsors, Process Owners, Physician and Administrative Leaders, and front‑line staff.

Responsibilities include coaching, training, knowledge transfer, and influencing change to advocate for excellence. The position reports to a site executive leader and the Lean Transformation Office.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Communicate with executive sponsors, team leaders, process owners, and stakeholders about progress, critical factors, and obstacles.
  • Lead and facilitate complex improvement events and projects with minimal oversight—including assessment, planning, facilitation, and sustaining outcomes.
  • Apply strong project‑management skills: develop clear A3 project plans, scope, timelines, data collection, and pre‑project communication plans; keep projects on track and use escalation plans when necessary.
  • Collect and analyze Lean process data, identify opportunities, develop solutions, implement improvements, and ensure operational sustainability.
  • Track return on investment and sustain continuous improvement gains.
  • Teach, mentor, and coach Lean concepts; act as a change agent to embed a process‑improvement culture across the organization.
  • Partner with operations to develop, implement, and sustain the Well Star management system model, supporting organization‑wide goal deployment.
  • Support the development of leader standard work, a linked checking system, and a linked learning system that connect priorities to front‑line work.
  • Deploy and maintain a standardized Well Star Lean Standard Work process‑improvement methodology, using checklists, roadmaps, standard‑work instructions, job aids, and other tools.
  • Collaborate with the System LTO to ensure Lean Standard Work processes are followed, provide feedback, elevate concerns, and maintain continuity across system‑level departments.
  • Identify and facilitate cross‑functional improvement opportunities across Quality & Safety, EHR optimization, Clinical Operations, Medical Staff, PI teams, Magnet designation, and Baldrige.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
Required

Minimum Education

Master’s Degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or Healthcare Sciences.

Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Lean Certification required;
Six‑Sigma certification within 1 year required; PMP Preferred.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 10 years of work experience; at least 8 years in a dedicated continuous‑improvement role using Lean methodology; at least 3 years in a direct management role; at least 5 years in a healthcare setting. Proven experience influencing change at the executive level, delivering results on strategic goals, and leading complex, multi‑department/service‑line initiatives in healthcare organizations.

Required Minimum Skills

Lean subject‑matter expertise (A3 Thinking, Strategy Deployment, VSM, RIE, Visual Management, Daily Huddles, 5S, Lean Management, Coaching, Mentoring, Training). Ability to establish credibility quickly at all levels; influence sustainable change across functional areas; partner with site‑wide leaders to gather, analyze, and present data; formulate actionable plans aligned with strategic initiatives; well organized, disciplined, persistent, and creative problem‑solver. Proficiency with Microsoft 365, data analysis, and project management.
