The Stress Tech functions under the direction of the Cardiology Supervisor. Works closely with physicians and other employees, proficiently performing 12-Lead EKGs, exercise and pharmacological stress testing and holter monitoring. The Stress Tech will participate in quality control and will be responsible for providing age appropriate patient care which addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychological, and educational needs of patient/family.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Cardiac Exercise Stress Testing- Performs exercise stress testing, walking nuclear stress tests, pharmacological nuclear stress tests, walking pharmacological nuclear stress tests, stress echos, and pharmacological stress echoes.
- Performs pre-procedure verification process.
- Monitors and interprets continuous 12-Lead EKG while patients exercise or are given a pharmacological agent for stress testing.
- Preps patient for exercise stress testing
- Communicates findings and status of the patient with the nurses and the doctors.
- Monitors patient blood pressure and heart rate response to stress testing.
- Uses independent judgement to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Accurately enters required information into structured report.
- Assigns completed reports to reading physician.
- Stocks rooms at the end of each day in preparation for the next day schedule.
- Educates the patients on the function of the monitor and how to record symptoms or events that occur while wearing the monitor.
- Register the patients online for Holter monitors.
- Communicates with doctors and nurses regarding significant events found on monitors.
- Returns patient phone calls regarding monitors.
- Importing of results into EMR.
- Assigns completed reports to reading physician.
- Assists in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
- Address problems with patient care, as they arise, and works to appropriately resolve.
- Performs basic patient care tasks, as needed.
- Ensures the equipment is in working order.
- Performs routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and reports any equipment malfunctions to Supervisor or Department Manager.
- Maintains BLS certifications.
- Maintains up to date education requirements for EKG interpretation and procedures.
- Maintains annual competencies set forth by the American College of Cardiology.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
High School Graduate Required
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
- Experience in cardiac stress testing with a population including cardiac patients, geriatric, and diabetic.
- Must possess knowledge of 12-Lead EKGs, coronary artery disease, blood pressure, and treatment options.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart.
