The City of Centerville is seeking an Economic Development Director to help lead and implement the city's economic development vision and initiatives.
This position is responsible for supporting the expansion and retention of existing businesses while actively recruiting new businesses to the community. The role focuses on increasing the commercial tax base, promoting job creation, and fostering sustainable economic growth in accordance with the goals set by the City Council
.
The Economic Development Director reports directly to the City Administrator and works closely with city leadership, business partners, and regional organizations to advance economic opportunities for the City of Centerville.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Economic Development Director will:
Develop and coordinate short- and long-range economic development goals
Conduct research, gather data, and prepare reports related to economic development initiatives
Recruit prospective businesses and present development opportunities
Provide economic development information, services, and program guidance
Maintain a comprehensive inventory of available buildings and development sites
Assist businesses in identifying potential sites and coordinate site visits
Build and maintain relationships with the local business community and development partners
Schedule quarterly meetings with current and prospective business developers
Prepare marketing materials including brochures, data sheets, and promotional packages
Implement a business retention program through visits, meetings, and networking
Provide project updates for press releases and city communications
Serve as liaison between the City of Centerville and organizations such as:
Houston County Development Authority
Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce
Other economic development partners
Assist businesses with facility improvements and coordinate community improvement projects
Work with the City Administrator to develop incentive agreements and contracts
Monitor local, state, and federal legislation impacting economic development
Research and prepare grant applications
Work with planning and zoning boards on annexation and zoning matters
Attend zoning board meetings and professional development events
Serve on internal city committees and assist other departments as needed
Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in business, economic development, or a related field
Approximately 3–5 years of related experience in economic or community development
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesSuccessful candidates should demonstrate:
Knowledge of economic development, business development, and municipal planning
Understanding of zoning, infrastructure, and local government processes
Familiarity with the city’s comprehensive plan and service delivery strategies
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build relationships with business leaders, civic groups, and public officials
Ability to prepare reports, marketing materials, and development proposals
Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules effectively
Ability to work independently with general supervision
Proficiency with standard office equipment and technology
Additional RequirementsValid State of Georgia Driver’s License (Class
C)
Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Ability to travel locally and occasionally regionally or nationally for economic development activities
Work Environment &Physical Requirements
This position includes a combination of office-based work and field activity within the community.
Typical duties may include:
Sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day
Computer and administrative work
Occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds
Visits to development sites and meetings with community stakeholders
