Fleet Maintenance Manager
The purpose of this position is to ensure that fleet vehicles and equipment are maintained and repaired in a safe, reliable, economical, and serviceable manner. This is a Union position focused on basic preventive and corrective maintenance on company fleet vehicles and equipment.
Job Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance oil changes and inspections in accordance with defined fleet procedures and minor electrical repairs on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Perform fueling and checking of fluids (as needed) on all fleet vehicles and equipment in accordance with defined fleet procedures, company safety guidelines, and state and federal regulations.
- Maintain fleet garage tire inventory; perform tire repairs/changes; and handle excavating chain adjustments and related bullet replacements to ensure fleet vehicles and equipment operate safely and reliably.
- Transport fleet vehicles and equipment between fleet service, third‑party establishments, and operating areas. Perform general fleet facility/housekeeping, vehicle equipment cleaning, washing activities, and other duties as assigned.
- Identify and inform supervisor and other qualified fleet personnel of vehicle and equipment preventive/corrective maintenance issues outside of their qualifications to ensure completion in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.
- Organize and effectively manage daily work assignments; accurately record time, material, and service charges in accordance with company policies, procedures, and defined fleet work practices.
- Identify and inform co‑workers, peers, and management of unsafe conditions or work practices to ensure compliance with company policies and mitigate personnel injuries or safety‑related incidents.
- Engage with fleet, business unit, and department personnel courteously, ensuring transparency on fleet maintenance and transportation activities.
- Engage with third‑party service providers, training, and safety to ensure overall effectiveness in fleet maintenance and training activities.
- Collaborate with fleet, other departments, and safety personnel/committees to ensure a safe work environment.
- Execute responsibilities timely and accurately to ensure overall fleet vehicle and equipment availability, performance, and reliability.
- Identify and initiate fleet process, service, and material improvements focused on enhancing departmental efficiencies and cost effectiveness.
- Provide timely and accurate information and system updates on pending fleet vehicle and maintenance activities to ensure efficient and effective resource scheduling.
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
- Commercial Driver’s License class A (with air brake endorsement) – required.
- Department of Transportation medical card – required.
- Must meet job requirements by the 120‑day performance review.
Work Hours:
Monday – Thursday 3:30 pm – 12:00 am
Friday 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Preferred: Automotive technology courses.
Related Work ExperienceRequired: 1–2 years of automotive work, including basic preventive maintenance and tire mounting; or equivalent academic and education experience.
Preferred: Exposure to utility, municipal, or commercial fleet maintenance environment.
Specific Skills & KnowledgeRequired: Reading, writing, and computer/system skills sufficient to enter work orders, time, material, and other required record‑keeping information into company‑supported systems.
Ability to obtain and retain company‑required driving, safety, and compliance training/certifications in a timely manner.
Preferred: Knowledge of natural gas vehicles and related support systems.
