Overview
The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Administrative Aide - Evidence in the Police Department.
Under general supervision, this role functions as a coordinator and liaison with Evidence Technicians and other Police personnel in all functions relating to evidence security, storage, packaging, court presentations, release and/or disposal of evidence or property in accordance with all applicable laws and Departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Coordinate, manage, and organize all necessary evidence/property control functions in the Evidence section of the Support Services Bureau.
- Log, record, perform computerized data entry, and bar-code evidence and property; generate and maintain reports on evidence/property in Police Department custody or storage.
- Dispense, dispose of, and release property in an appropriate and legal manner in accordance with rules of evidence.
- Store and maintain evidence/property in facilities utilized by the Police Department.
- Research old case files, microfilm, computerized records, and interact with other agencies to facilitate disposal of evidence.
- Transport property between facilities as required to related support agencies (e.g., Crime Labs, Post Office).
- Perform audits and inventory on items of evidence/property stored within Police Department facilities.
- Assist and coordinate with Evidence Technicians and other police officers in any necessary function relating to evidence/property.
- Testify in court as necessary and assist in investigative proceedings relating to evidence and its storage.
- Properly utilize safe methods in handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain adequate supplies of materials and equipment to facilitate all related duties in the Evidence Division.
- Display knowledge of and adherence to Departmental rules and regulations, and related federal, state, and local laws.
- Perform other duties as required within the scope of the above.
- High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college coursework or training in law enforcement.
- Minimum of five (5) years in the law enforcement field, with some concentration and/or training in evidence.
- Impeccable and unimpeachable integrity.
- Requires Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID).
- Requires valid Illinois Class D driver’s license.
- Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including, but not limited to, a physical, drug screen, and background check.
- This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Starting hourly rate is $28.47/hr, depending on experience and qualifications.
