Application Engineer – Wireless Charging (Industrial Automation)
Location: Aurora, IL (On-site when not traveling)
Travel: ~40% (North America)
Role OverviewHirewell is partnering with a global leader in industrial wireless charging technology to hire an Application Engineer for its North American headquarters in Aurora, IL. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, customer engagement, and technical sales support, supporting advanced wireless charging systems used in AGVs, AMRs, and material handling automation across warehouses and manufacturing environments.
You’ll serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, working hands‑on with real‑world automation challenges. From defining application requirements to troubleshooting field issues and supporting design‑ins, this role offers direct exposure to cutting‑edge industrial technology and close collaboration with sales, product management, and R&D teams.

Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary technical contact for customers, providing application support via phone, email, virtual meetings, and on-site visits
- Partner directly with customer engineering teams to define application requirements, evaluate feasibility, and explore “what-if” scenarios
- Diagnose and resolve field performance issues through hands‑on troubleshooting, bench testing, and root cause analysis
- Conduct failure analysis on returned products and provide clear corrective action documentation
- Deliver product demonstrations and technical training to customers and prospects to support design-in and adoption
- Act as a technical resource to the sales team during both pre‑ and post‑sales phases
- Maintain accurate documentation of customer interactions, site visits, and technical findings in Salesforce CRM
- Travel approximately 40% to customer sites across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and other regions as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline OR equivalent hands‑on engineering experience (4+ years) in industrial automation environments
- Experience supporting, installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting industrial automation systems
- Foundational knowledge of:
- DC battery systems
- CAN bus communication, diagnostics, and debugging
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis in real‑world environments
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences
- Comfort working directly with customers on‑site, including in time‑sensitive or high‑pressure situations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general comfort using CRM and technical software tools
- Ability to travel
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and passport
- Experience in logistics automation, factory automation, or process automation industries
- Exposure to wireless power transfer, inductive charging, or advanced power electronics
- Familiarity with automation‑related software and embedded systems
- Prior experience supporting sales teams in a technical or application engineering capacity
- Demonstrated ability to recommend process or design improvements to customers
- Strong customer relationship management skills, including expectation‑setting and conflict resolution
- Work with industry‑leading wireless charging technology powering next‑generation automation
