The Motor Vehicle Operator Leader works closely with the Mobility Manger and operations dispatcher to ensure the daily workload as well as workload planning is being performed as efficiently as possible. Incumbent transports ambulatory and wheelchair patients to VA facilities, residences, and area medical facilities within the organization's catchment area.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

* Possessing and maintaining a valid, unrestricted CDL license with passenger endorsement.

* Operating multi-passenger wheelchair equipped vans.

* Being familiar with the National Department of Transportation and Colorado guidelines/polices governing motor vehicle operators and well versed in every aspect of patient safety during transport.

* Driving vehicles in various road conditions to safely transport patients to their destinations and know how to properly load and secure wheelchair patients in the vehicle.

* Providing guidance and training to 10 motor vehicle operators to ensure activities are being performed in accordance with established procedures.

* Monitoring vehicle usage; to include recording number of trips and passenger totals and types.

* Ensuring vehicle fleet is sized and maintained to VA and GSA requirements.

* Being knowledge of vehicles equipped with special-purpose accessory equipment.

* Coordinating trips with the Transportation Coordinator to determining type of vehicle to be used, deadlines to be met, and to gather any special information important to the mission.

* Understanding the use of Vet Ride and obeying all traffic laws and safety regulations, as well as the safe loading and unloading of the vehicle.

* Reporting of accidents, breakdowns, or equipment failure/needs etc. to the attention of the Mobility Manager immediately.

* Providing care to the age of patients being served.

* Assisting patients into and out of the vehicle.

* Operates vehicle in all types of traffic and weather situation on public roads.

* Driving in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems.

* Performing preventive maintenance tasks and manifest rosters.

* Maintaining current informational knowledge base and answering the questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that arise.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Travel Required:

76% or greater - You are expected to travel for this position.
