The Rocky Mountain Region Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RMRVAMC) Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI/D) Center provides comprehensive rehabilitative care for patients with spinal cord disorders. The goals of the program include understanding of altered body function with spinal cord injury and learning physical and social abilities to live a full, rich life.

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional

* Performs a variety of supportive, nursing and medical tasks necessary to the care of patients during diagnostic and therapeutic visits to Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders Center at RMRVAMC.

* Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.

* Performs routine evaluation of patients while in the clinic setting by obtaining current symptoms and complaints, observing the patient's condition, behavior, and response to treatments and/or medications.

* Documents appropriate information in the patient record and reports significant deviations to the RN and/or provider.

* Provides effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and/or prescribed treatment regimes.

* Recognizes the need for and institutes cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures when indicated in accordance with established medical center policy and procedure. Performs other assignments designated by the RN or clinic providers which are essential to patient care and appropriate to the incumbent's level of training.

* Serves as the scheduler for the clinic and is responsible for triaging all telephone calls, responding appropriately, greeting visitors, and responding to their needs.

* Reviews schedules and ensures clinic slots are managed appropriately to maximize capacity making schedule changes, as necessary.

* Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to include completion of memos, reports, meeting minutes, power point presentations, excel spread sheets, and filing.

* Observes workflow, guides patients through hospital system, inputs referrals, documents complaints, provides follow-up and suggests resolutions to supervisor.

* Possesses the ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, meetings and training sections.

* Independently performs coordinating duties related to the operation of the clinic such as ordering and maintaining supplies and medications and obtaining patient data.

* Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action.

* Adheres to Safe Patient Handling and Mobility policies and procedures.

* Follows Life Safety Management (fire protection) procedures.

* Reports safety hazards, accidents, and injuries.

* Reviews hazardous materials/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/waste management.

* Follows Emergency Preparedness plan.

* Follows security policies/procedures.

* Complies with federal, state and local environmental and other requirements preventing pollution, minimizing waste, and conserving cultural and natural resources.

* Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e. hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures, including TB, MRSA, CDIFF and MDRO requirements/precautions).

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
