Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Grandview High School
Cherry Creek School District invites applications for a full‑time Educational Sign Language Interpreter. The role supports students with hearing loss and staff, minimizing linguistic, cultural, and physical barriers and facilitating all communication among deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) students, hearing personnel, and other students through American Sign Language (ASL) or an appropriate mode of communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide interpreting in all educational settings; determine best distance, lighting, and angle for student viewing. Daily 30%
- Communicate with the educational team; provide input on student performance and progress for instructional planning and IEP meetings; participate in IEP meetings with another interpreter if needed. Daily 20%
- Assist student behavior in all settings; facilitate social interaction and extracurricular activities. Daily 15%
- Provide tutoring services to reinforce concepts taught in general and special education. Daily 15%
- Plan upcoming lessons and activities to interpret efficiently and provide academic assistance; adapt language and materials. Daily 10%
- Uphold State, county, local, and District rules, regulations, and policies. Daily 5%
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Daily 5%
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- Associate’s degree
- Two years of professional work experience in sign language or interpreting in an educational setting
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Educational Interpreter Authorization
- Basic knowledge of office equipment (telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Advanced knowledge of Deaf culture
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency with American Sign Language and other signing systems
- Intermediate organization skills
- Intermediate tutoring skills
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced interpersonal relations skills
- Advanced interpreting skills (voice to sign and sign to voice)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
- Ability to work one‑on‑one or in small groups with students
- Ability to stay abreast of and follow both the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Professional Conduct Guidelines
- Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds)
- Primarily works indoors
- Typically a moderate noise level
- Work location subject to change to meet organization requirements
- Experience working in the public sector
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement

- Bachelor’s degree
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent
- Experience working in the public sector
