Job Description
A Higher Education client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Database Administrator and Data Integration Specialist to lead efforts in managing, modernizing, and integrating their data platforms. This role combines core SQL Server DBA responsibilities—such as optimizing performance, ensuring security, and implementing high availability and disaster recovery strategies—with leadership in modernization initiatives, including migrating large on-premises databases to cloud-based solutions like Azure SQL and building on-premises big data environments.
The ideal candidate will have experience with data orchestration tools such as Dagster, and technologies like Spark, dbt, DuckDB, and Airbyte to design and automate end-to-end data pipelines. Responsibilities include defining architecture upgrades, integrating SQL Server with big data platforms, implementing governance and observability practices, and leveraging Dev Ops principles for automation and CI/CD deployments. This position requires strong collaboration with data engineers and analysts, mentoring team members on best practices, and driving innovation in data management to support analytics and business goals.
We are looking for a detail-oriented, organized individual with excellent problem solving skills. This position is a 6 month contract role with possibility of extensions, and can pay between $55-60/hour with medical benefits and 401k options offered on contract. If interested, please apply!

Skills and Requirements
5+ years of experience as a DBA focusing on SQL Server
Experience managing large datasets and integrating SQL Server environments with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Apache Spark, and cloud data warehouses like Snowflake.
Experience with security, optimization and maintenance of initiatives
Proven experience working on projects involving data engineer and integration and tools facilitating modernization, orchestration, and observability.
Experience implementing automation for routine tasks using scripting languages (T-SQL, Power Shell, Python) and leveraging Dev Ops practices like CI/CD.
Experience with data migration of large on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure Data Lake Storage.
