Established in 1993, the CU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Section of Nutrition was the first independent program dedicated to addressing and promoting best practices for nutrition and physical activity with a focus on disease, health and well‑being for infants and children.
Through clinical services, research, education, community outreach and advocacy, the section offers expertise in obesity, undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. Areas of emphasis include climate effects on nutrition, health equity/disparities, food as medicine, precision nutrition, brain‑gut mechanisms, obesity interventions, micronutrients, developmental origins of adult disease, early infant feeding, and drivers of eating behavior. The Section of Nutrition has a strong commitment to research and education.
In 2024, the section had over $24 million in research funding, and their nutrition training programs include the nation's longest‑serving NIH‑funded T32 program.
The Medical Director in the Section of Nutrition is a core member of the Section Leadership team. They will provide strategic and operational leadership for programs within the Section, with an emphasis on Obesity and related comorbidities. The role involves planning and supporting the mission areas of the SON clinical programs, including high‑quality clinical care, education advocacy, advanced training, and innovative research within a nationally recognized Nutrition Section and an interdisciplinary obesity program – the Lifestyle Medicine program, a premier tertiary‑care obesity program recognized for outstanding care and innovation.
The Medical Director will work collaboratively with the Section Head, other medical/program leaders, and the Business Manager to guide and implement the Section of Nutrition Strategic Plan across the educational, clinical, research, and outreach pillars. This position reports to the Head – Section of Nutrition and will work with the Section leadership team on strategic plan development and implementation as it relates to Pediatric Nutrition, with an emphasis on obesity.
- Conduct and support research programs and strategy.
- Provide leadership on operational excellence of clinical programs, including development and implementation of new clinical programs/pathways, building quality improvement and research direction and projects.
- Support educational programs across all levels of learners and trainees.
- Develop and implement programs and activities on population health, community outreach, marketing, and advocacy as outlined in our strategic plan.
- Enhance Section visibility locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Partner with faculty, allied providers, and the Leadership team in the broader Lifestyle Medicine program to ensure optimal collaboration, participate as a leader in driving the broader vision, mission, and growth of the Lifestyle Medicine program in Children's Hospital.
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
