Job Summary

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Department of Pathology is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) open rank Healthcare Professional (Entry to Senior) for the Research Histology Section of the Pathology Shared Resource with special requirements in histology for human clinical research and animal biospecimens. This position will entail routine gross dissection, tissue processing, sectioning, and staining for ongoing clinical and basic research projects and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Routine gross dissection and tissue processing of human specimens (clinical trials and clinical translational research)
  • Routine gross dissection and tissue processing of animal biospecimens
  • Paraffin microtomy of human and animal biospecimens
  • H&E staining
  • Special stains for histology
  • Immunohistochemistry, using automated as well as manual platforms
  • Development and optimization of antibody assays
  • Interact and coordinate with pathologists, clinicians, researchers, and other lab personnel to support new and ongoing research histology projects
  • General lab organization/maintenance, including ordering and allocation
  • Maintaining/updating existing laboratory databases and regulatory compliance
Work Location

This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Entry Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Intermediate Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional experience working in a research or clinical lab and experience with histology techniques.

Senior Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of professional experience working in a research or clinical lab and experience with histology techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in research or clinical lab and experience with histology and immunohistochemistry techniques.
  • Experience with human subject research and handling of Protected Health Information (PHI). Experience with handling human biospecimens for research or clinical testing.
  • Experience in handling animal specimens.
  • HTL(ASCP) certified or interested in obtaining HTL(ASCP) certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
