Lead Histology Lab Assistant (Lab Tech III)

Job Summary:Full‑time laboratory technician responsible for managing inventory, supervising lab assistants, maintaining histology equipment, and ensuring proper handling of patient materials in a clinical pathology setting.
Key Responsibilities:- Inventory Management (80%)
- Order, receive, and log supplies in Lab Guru inventory software.
- Label, stock, and physically monitor supplies to maintain adequate par levels.
- Identify storage needs and organize laboratory inventory.
- Staff Leadership (10%)
- Maintain and post work schedules for lab assistants.
- Train new staff and provide coverage when assistants are unavailable.
- Equipment Maintenance (5%)
- Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly maintenance on Sakura Prisma/Prisma Plus, Peloris III, and VIP 6 tissue processors.
- Document all maintenance and record temperatures of ovens, paraffin pots, and processors.
- Patient Material Handling (5%)
- File blocks and unstained slides in designated drawers and storage areas.
- Coordinate block storage from drawers to boxes and to the basement, and manage large‑scale archives with path archives.
- Six (6) years of related education and/or experience in histology or a similar laboratory environment.
- Six (6) months of experience organizing specimens and assisting with processing using complex machinery and staining systems.
- Expertise in histology laboratory procedures, including specimen preparation and staining techniques such as H&E.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment (paraffin baths, cryostats, ovens, staining systems).
- Independent judgment for selecting methodologies and troubleshooting non‑routine problems.
- Data entry and LIS use, including accurate labeling and retrieval of specimens.
- Compliance with safety and handling protocols for biological, chemical, and infectious materials.
- Effective written and oral communication.
- Customer‑service orientation and teamwork across all institutional levels.
- Organizational and workload management skills.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
