DescriptionPosition reports to the Project Director and involves NIH-funded research focused on families with school-aged children in Denver, CO and the Twin Cities, MN. Visits with families may occur in the afternoon/evening and on weekends based on family availability.
Responsibilities- Data Collector (40%): support recruitment and retention for a large longitudinal cohort study; train and conduct mixed-methods measures with families (e.g., anthropometry, mHealth, surveys); use Red Cap and other tools to track families and measurement time points; develop data collection protocols and materials; participate in video-recorded supervision to improve measurement skills.
- Community Health Worker (CHW) (40%): work with 500+ families across Denver and the Twin Cities to deliver a 6-month intervention focused on improving the quality and quantity of family meals using motivational interviewing and SMART goals; sessions may be virtual or in-person (homes or secure locations); develop home environments that support healthy meals; engage in supervision and feedback to strengthen CHW skills;
oversee case management via Red Cap and other platforms; help develop program materials and related activities. - Intervention Duties (40% split in roles above are approximate): engage with families during visits, document activities, expand knowledge of community resources related to social determinants of health, translate materials into Spanish, and prepare intervention materials.
- Engage with families in intervention visits and track study progress; conduct virtual and in-person visits to deliver the intervention; reduce barriers to healthy family meals; serve as main contact between visits; document feedback; expand knowledge of community resources.
- Prepare for intervention visits by creating materials, translating into Spanish, reviewing materials, and assisting families in identifying resources (e.g., food assistance).
- Lead participant retention over 12–18 months: develop outreach processes, coordinate schedules, monitor progress, report results, update Red Cap, and manage incentives with the study team.
- Collect anthropometric and survey data virtually from families; coordinate blood sample collection and other biological data (with a focus on both parent and child participants).
- Attend weekly meetings and training; assist with protocols; support study operations and problem solve using study data and project management tools; adapt materials as needed based on PI/study team decisions; ensure meticulous study documentation.
- Translate data collection materials as applicable (e.g., participant handouts, recruitment materials).
Hybrid – 2–3 days per week on campus with in-person meetings as needed.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any field (or a combination of education and related experience substituted on a year-for-year basis)
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
Entry Level Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, nutrition, behavioral sciences, or similar field
- 1–3 years of relevant experience; experience with electronic data capture systems; experience with health behavior change; familiarity with motivational interviewing; experience with in-person and virtual work; experience with young children; preference for candidates familiar with Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and/or Native American families
Intermediate Level Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in public health, social work, nutrition, behavioral sciences, or similar field
