Post Award Specialist (Open Rank: Senior Principal)
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus – Department:
Physiology and Biophysics. Position # (Requisition 39226). This role reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and works closely with department faculty. The position will provide direct professional support of research activities, including contracts and grants administration, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication, post‑award management, and human subject and animal compliance. The position will begin on‑site, five days per week, with a possibility of hybrid schedule after the initial period.
- Activate Grant Accounts
- Contract and Subcontract Administration
- Reconcile grant, AEF and gift accounts on a monthly basis, reviewing transactions for appropriateness
- Provide monthly financial projections to PIs and the Director of Finance and Administration on all sponsored programs and start‑up accounts
- Process grant account close‑outs
Onsite; no more than two remote workdays per week.

Minimum Qualifications
Senior Professional
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, public administration or related field.
- Combination of education and related experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Two or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in research administration, grants management, finance or related area.
Principal Professional
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, public administration or related field.
- Combination of education and related experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in research administration, grants management, finance or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in business, accounting, public administration or related area.
- Experience in an academic, medical or research institution.
- Experience managing federal sponsored awards (NIH, NSF, DoD) including Uniform Guidance and sponsor policies.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ability to use formulas, pivot tables, data analysis tools and create complex spreadsheets for financial data.
- Advanced post‑award financial analysis experience (forecasting, variance analysis, cost transfers, compliance monitoring).
- Experience in post‑award grants management (financial oversight, reconciliations, projections, close‑out).
- Ability to work independently in a compliance‑driven environment requiring judgment, accuracy and accountability.
Skills and Abilities
- Effective written and oral communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff at all levels.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, complex spreadsheets).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines and provide guidance to faculty and leadership on post‑award matters.

Anticipated Pay Range- Senior Level: $56,553 – $71,936
- Principal Level: $65,036 – $82,726
