Job SummaryThe Finance & Accounting Professional provides critical financial support to the Department of Medicine finance team and will report directly to the Finance Program Manager. This position will be responsible for preparing departmental budgets, monitoring and correcting actual expenses, and addressing budget variances, recurring financial reporting for the Department and Divisions, monitoring and reconciling all departmental financial transactions, and reviewing and approving divisional transactions.
This position serves as a resource for all divisions within the Department of Medicine.
- Monitor and reconcile divisional financial transactions, report financials to the division administrator and division head.
- Ensure divisional financial commitments are appropriately funded and not overspent.
- Serve as a financial resource to faculty, providing support as needed.
- Take corrective action on deficits or accounting errors in accordance with University and Departmental policies.
- Prepare monthly divisional fund financial statements and submit contracts as needed.
- Monitor and update monthly funding distributions for faculty and staff within the division.
- Produce ad hoc financial reports, including CU Medicine operating, enrichment, and contract roll-up reports.
- Review monthly financial reports and prepare necessary journal entries (JEs), budget journal entries (BJEs), cash transfers, and Payroll Expense Transfers (PETs).
- Calculate, validate, and submit compensation items such as incentives, on-call pay, differential pay, and additional procedure pay.
- Conduct reconciliations and submit Defacto and Axiom budgets and reports for assigned programs.
Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days per week on campus and as needed for in‑person meetings.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications Senior Level
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- Two (2) years of professional level experience in finance/accounting that involved analyzing and reconciling complex accounting information and financial statements.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- Three (3) years of professional level experience in finance/accounting that involved analyzing and reconciling complex accounting information and financial statements.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior experience working in an academic medical center or a healthcare environment.
- Experience working with University of Colorado and CU Medicine (UPI formerly) business applications (Peoplesoft Finance, CU-Data, HCM, Info Ed, Concur, Marketplace, Web Space, AX System, COR
360 etc.). - Four (4) to six (6) years of professional experience in financial or data analysis, administration, and/or management.
