Located in Aurora, CO, just north of Green Valley Ranch (10 minutes from Denver International Airport), HPA serves an ethnically diverse student population which includes 26% linguistically diverse students and 54% of students that qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. Position OverviewThe Pre-K teacher is responsible for creating a flexible classroom that promotes learning and personal growth. He/she works to establish effective rapport with students and good relationships with parents and other staff members. The Pre-K teacher motivates students to develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and knowledge while providing rich, instructional experiences as a foundation for upper elementary grade education in accordance with each student's ability.
The Pre-K teacher should be familiar with all school procedures and have a basic knowledge of the full range of age groups to ensure that a cohesive approach is followed. Familiarity with the school's philosophy and mission statement is essential.
- Appropriate teaching certifications or equivalent qualifications (Highly Qualified)
- Strong knowledge in the area of developing lessons and curriculum that will meet the needs of individual students
- An ability to communicate well with all ages students, staff, and parents
- A positive attitude and a committed team player
- Expertise in building active, collaborative programs that encourage problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, and develop a sense of classroom community and trust
- A solid understanding of the organization, programs, and students and a willingness to adopt the HPA curriculum into their teaching strategies
- A proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual needs and integrate learning into the daily schedule
- Capable of instructing students in a supportive manner that addresses multiple learning styles Ability to design student group work for meaningful student interactions
- Understanding of a wide range of assessment tools and strategies with the ability to share their application to inquiry-based instruction
- Experience in integrating technology into the everyday classroom
- Previous teaching experience preferred, but not required Experience in curriculum and assessment development
- Teaches grade-level skills(reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, art, health, and music) in accordance with HPA and state standards in a way that matches the individual needs of students
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning challenges
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Plans learning and assessment based on the needs of the students
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Supervise co-curricular roles and attend to assigned duties
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
- Establishes effective communication lines with parents and students through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program
- Identifies student needs and is the primary advocate of the student in meeting their needs Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the school day
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Participates in curriculum and staff development opportunities as required
- Maintains a high level of professional competence through in-service education
- Provides a learning environment that is stimulating where children can develop their potential and also experience growth
