Position: College and Career Counselor (1 year only)
School Year:
Location: Basalt High School
Reports to: Basalt High School Principal and Assistant Principal
Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week)
Contract Period: 185 working days.
- *$60,105 to $85,100 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience)
* The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE
1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. The College and Career Counselor (CCC) is dedicated to supporting students in their transitions from high school to post-secondary education and/or career paths. The CCC collaborates with students, parents, leadership, and the community to provide students with opportunities and resources to succeed both in and after high school. This is a one year position.
Primary Duties- Work directly with students to assess, plan, and implement academic tracks that align with their interests and skills.
- Collaborate to implement Individual Career and Academic Plan surveys for all students.
- Plan college trips for juniors as part of the Experiential Education program, focusing on a diversity of options, including 4-year, 2-year, and trade schools.
- Engage parents in post-secondary planning and implementation.
- Work with community organizations and colleges to connect students with internships and career development opportunities, career expos, and job fairs.
- Plan curricula and teach college and career discovery courses.
- Use technology to connect students with college application resources, career planning, and financial aid opportunities.
- Write letters of recommendation as requested.
- Coordinate local scholarship and financial aid application processes.
- Teach and facilitate student understanding of financial aid packages, including college portals and how to pursue college scholarships.
- Plan and implement Scholarship Award Night.
- Organize, plan, and present the Graduate Panel.
- Analyze and report student post-secondary planning data.
- Collaborate to plan and execute graduation.
- Additional Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of one year experience in counseling or related field.
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in a related field.
- Active Colorado Special Service Provider License in School Counseling or the ability to obtain one. If additional coursework or a preparation program is required, the applicant must provide proof of enrollment and submission of the required documentation to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) within 30 days of employment.
- Official transcripts must be provided upon hire. For international transcripts, an evaluation is required through a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Knowledge of:
- Spanish: Bilingual strongly preferred.
- Data-Driven Practices: Expertise in implementing data-driven school counseling practices to assess and improve student outcomes, ensuring a personalized approach to student success.
- Consultation and Coordination: Ability to consult and coordinate school resources effectively in the advocacy of students, ensuring they receive the necessary support both inside and outside of school.
