Job Summary

Provide instruction and manage a classroom in the regular teacher's absence, following provided lesson plans, managing student behavior, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. Job Task Descriptions
  • Instruct students in large, small, and one‑on‑one situations – Daily, 50% of time.
  • Create a classroom environment that maximizes instructional opportunity, supervise the behavior and well‑being of students in the classroom and all educational settings, and administer discipline when appropriate – Daily, 25% of time.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve student outcomes – Daily, 20% of time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested – Daily, 5% of time.
Reporting Relationships

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • No professional work experience required
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) substitute authorization or teaching license
  • Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Basic classroom management and planning skills
  • Basic organizational skills
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
  • Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
  • Ability and desire to work as a team member
  • Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous successful teaching experience
  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Experience advising school clubs/co‑curricular activities
