Position Title: Part Time COMPASS Guide and COMPASS Support Guide – Open Rank (Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant, Associate, Professor)

Job Summary: The mission of the COMPASS Program is to guide medical students through their transformation into physicians, deepen their understanding of how physicians engage with the world, and support their journey toward reaching their full potential. Each student in the Trek curriculum is paired with a faculty COMPASS Guide for all four (or more) years of medical school. COMPASS Guides serve as longitudinal coaches, dedicated educators, and develop students’ coaching, self‑reflection, professional identity, growth mindset, and more.
COMPASS Support Guides provide short‑term and long‑term coverage as part of an educator‑on‑call backup system, stepping in when a full‑time Guide takes leave or exits the program.
Work Location: Hybrid – on campus in Aurora, CO, and remote as needed.
Responsibilities- Coaching (30%):
- Meet with students as needed for additional coaching or counseling.
- Address immediate student issues, including off‑hours concerns in emergent situations with the Office of Student Life.
- Document all meetings and maintain close communication with the Office of Student Life.
- Write letters of recommendation and assist with MSPE preparation.
- Support students’ residency applications and provide academic/career advising.
- Teaching (20%):
- Facilitate small‑group sessions on Professional Identity Formation and Health & Society (≈5 sessions per year for each year of study).
- Serve as substitute facilitator for first‑year COMPASS groups.
- Facilitate sessions during Advanced Science Courses and Basecamp weeks.
- Provide career‑advising sessions for residency preparation.
- Assessment (20%):
- Grade notes and oral presentations for the Clinical Performance Exam.
- Grade notes and oral work during Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships.
- Trek Progress Committee (5%):
- Attend committee meetings (≈1 per month).
- Summarize student progress; participate in remediation plans for non‑coached students.
- Community Building (5%):
- Attend first‑year orientation and college social events.
- Mentor 4th‑year Student Leaders (Navigators) and attend planning sessions.
- Faculty Development (10%):
- Complete required faculty development sessions and monthly guide check‑ins.
- Attend the annual COMPASS retreat and other development sessions.
- Meet yearly with the COMPASS Program Director for performance review.
- Hybrid schedule includes selected days per week, including Wednesday on campus for in‑person sessions.
- M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education.
- Medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
- Prior medical student teaching experience (≥2 years) is preferred.
- Experience with coaching or mentoring, and interest in health systems science.
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, growth mindset, and a reflective, humanistic approach.
- Program management and coordination skills; strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to cultivate relationships with university and community physicians and students.
- Experience teaching small groups and facilitating professional identity formation sessions.
- Experience with Residency application advising (MSPE, recommendation letters).
FTE range 0.05–0.20. Salary ranges as follows (up to $250,000 cap). For COMPASS Guide: $25,000–$50,000;
For COMPASS Support Guide: $6,250–$12,500. Benefits and additional compensation per policy.
