Clinical Dental Care Assistant II (Dental Care II) – School of Dental Medicine
Location:
Onsite, Aurora, Colorado (University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus)
Under the direction of the appropriate supervisor, the Clinical Dental Care Assistant II supports clinical operations by preparing and positioning patients, preparing clinical areas for treatment, performing intraoral and extraoral radiographs, ensuring sterile techniques and infection control procedures, maintaining aseptic and sterilization standards, inspecting instruments and equipment, developing and identifying radiographic films, troubleshooting scanners, and assisting in the educational mission of the SDM by demonstrating and instructing dental students in technical dentistry practices.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and position patients for treatment.
- Prepare clinical areas for patient treatment.
- Use sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
- Perform aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Demonstrate and instruct dental students in technical practices.
- Inspect instruments/tools for proper working condition.
- Perform intraoral and extraoral radiographs using appropriate technique and safety equipment.
- Develop, mount, and identify radiographic films.
- Troubleshoot scanners to ensure high‑quality imaging.
- Support the educational mission by role‑modeling and coaching students during four‑handed chairside activities and clinical operations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of dental assisting experience.
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience (must attach certificate).
Preferred Qualifications
- Current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.
- Recent experience in a fast‑paced dental environment.
- Experience preparing clinical areas in a dental clinic or office.
- Experience taking x‑rays and developing digital dental radiographs.
- Experience sterilizing dental tools, instruments, and equipment.
- Experience working with students and faculty in an academic medical environment.
- Experience working with multiple doctors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
- Excellent customer service and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and instrumentation.
- High level of proficiency in all phases of dental assisting.
- Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
