Maine Family Planning is hiring three full-time (temporary) Community Organizers. One position will have a duration of 12 months; two positions will have a duration of six months. These positions will be supervised by the Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement.

The Community Organizers will identify, organize, and mobilize a network of key communities who will advocate for Maine Family Planning’s policy agenda. The Community Organizers will support the Advocacy and Community Engagement Department through activities related to 501(c)3 grassroots outreach and community partnerships to increase public awareness of Maine Family Planning’s service and policy agenda.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent Maine Family Planning at community events to recruit new volunteers and provide information about MFP’s services and community programming.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers to support MFP’s advocacy efforts and community programming aimed at protecting and expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Support MFP’s engagement in major events and rapid response moments, such as rallies, marches, lobby days, and other events.
  • Facilitate communication between MFP volunteers and supporters and their legislative representatives. This includes phone banking, facilitating in-district meetings, and petition campaigns.
  • Maintain records in MFP’s advocacy database including contact history, events attended, and volunteer contact information.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Maine Family Planning volunteers and supporters of sexual and reproductive healthcare.
  • Education and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfort engaging in one-on-one conversations and small group facilitation.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Alignment with our mission and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to travel throughout the State of Maine.
