We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical cornerstone for our Trading and Financial Infrastructure. This is a critical leadership role for an engineer who combines deep backend systems expertise with Trader DNA, an innate understanding of risk, velocity, and market mechanics.

In this role, you will define the technical strategy for complex financial products and drive initiatives end-to-end, from architecture and design through implementation. This is a hands-on role where you’ll read and write code daily, and act as a force multiplier to deliver multi-quarter roadmaps that impact the entire company.

• Spearhead the technical design and implementation of major initiatives across the Consumer organization.
• Ensure a performant, low-latency trading experience for users globally.
• Review and simplify the technical architecture across Trading and Financial Services.
• Reduce dependency on shared platform teams by building robust, domain-specific solutions.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and increase the engineering rigor of our systems.
• Define the SLOs and metrics that truly reflect product quality and drive the initiatives required to improve them.
• Exert technical leadership across large teams and multiple pods. You will influence decision-making at an org-wide level.
• Actively recruit and assess engineers with Trader DNA, helping to raise the bar for the wider engineering organization.

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale backend distributed systems
• Experience building crypto-native systems or extensive background in Trad Fi, including Market Making, Market Structure, or Trading Systems (specifically Futures, Options, and Equities)
• You excel in environments where the path forward isn’t clear. You can translate abstract business goals into concrete technical roadmaps.
• You have a proven ability to lead other senior ICs and influence large projects
• Strong cross-functional partnership skills, as this role spans across all Consumer organization.

Pay Transparency Notice:
Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position can range. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).

Base salary range shown. Total compensation also includes equity and bonus eligibility and benefits:

$253,895—$298,700 USD
