Lecturer of Music Technology (Augusta Campus)

The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track, Lecturer of Music Technology and Recording Studio Manager. This academic year appointment will start in the fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will teach courses in the field of Music Technology and other music courses where needed. This is a 9-month contract with credit release each semester for managing the recording and sonic arts studio on the Augusta campus.

As

a full‑time faculty member, you will be expected to:
  • Prepare coursesyllabi, develop courses online in Brightspace, and create assessments of learning
  • Offer courses in a variety of different modalities, including in‑person, live‑online/distance synchronous, as well as asynchronous
  • Support students in their learning and connect them to UMA resources as needed
  • Advises students in the major
  • Teach 6-9 credits each semester, with opportunities to teach additional classes in the summer, and manage the UMA Recording Studio.
  • Participate in program meetings, UMA committees, community service, and collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS)

UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology, including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, college, and university.

Recording Studio Manager Responsibilities:
  • Manage the scheduling of the recording and sonic arts studios for UMA Students and Faculty
  • Maintain the hardware and software in the recording and sonic arts studios
  • Maintain the tech room (materials, organization, etc).
  • Oversee any student workers that will be supporting the studios
  • Support department tech fee requests for equipment
  • Communicate to the music coordinator equipment and software needs
  • Coordinate the set‑up and tear down of studios for UMA in house use
  • Potential for summer management
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Music, Music Technology or a related field
  • University teaching experience as the Instructor of Record
  • Experience with online teaching or learning
  • Experience in working with recording studio hardware and software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Commitment to UMA’s mission in undergraduate education and teaching non‑traditional students and transforming the lives of students
  • Experience teaching first‑generation, justice‑impacted, and/or early college students
  • Ability to teach introductory, upper level, and elective courses in Music Technology and other Music Courses where necessary
Salary:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience, in accordance with the AFUM contract. The normal starting salary is low to mid 50’s.
