DESCRIPTION:
The Office of Employee Health & Wellness, Workers’ Compensation, is responsible for the overall management of the State’s self-insured workers’ compensation program. Through comprehensive partnerships and initiatives, the office works to prevent workplace injuries and promote employee safety. In addition, it ensures that injured State of Maine employees receive necessary services, including medical care and compensation.
This position provides support to a fast-paced office. Responsibilities include receiving, retrieving, processing, tracking, and maintaining records on workers’ compensation claims. This is done primarily by entering collected data into an information system. The position involves regular contact with injured workers and other partners. Work is performed under limited supervision.
RE PRESENTATIVETASKS:- Processing First Reports of Injuries, including interviewing injured employees.
- Preparing other workers’ compensation Board forms.
- Representing OWC by supporting claims for assigned departments.
- Providing administrative support.
- Participating in meetings and projects as assigned.
- Receiving, processing, tracking, and maintaining records on workers’ compensation claims.
- Reviewing bills, authorizing payments, and entering bill information into the workers’ compensation database system.
- Issuing timely payments and approving reimbursement requests.
- Resolving billing issues/questions.
- Processing pharmacy requests.
- Conducting research utilizing various computer databases, manuals, and case files to respond to questions, resolve problems, or provide needed information.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office desktop applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint & Excel).
- Knowledge of workers' compensation procedures and practices.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to document critical financial transactions accurately.
- Ability to organize well, multitask, and handle a variety of competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to gather information and analyze results from multiple data sources.
- Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
- Ability to verify, code, and reconcile data on standard documents.
- Ability to work and plan independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships (internal and external).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (verbal and written).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Combination of related post-secondary education, training, or experience demonstrating basic knowledge in workers’ compensation administration and human resource functions. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in workers’ compensation.
