JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or GED required
Certification or Licensure: A valid state-issued driver's license and employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a Bus Monitor / Attendant training program.
Skills: Must successfully complete a training program designed to familiarize the monitor with fundamental safe bus operations and student management procedures. Must be knowledgeable of Board of Education Policies relating to student behavior on school buses Ability to read and write, communicate orally, understand and carry out written and oral instructions, maintain effective control over groups of children, and work harmoniously with children and others.
Must understand what constitutes child abuse and reporting.
One of the most important skills of the bus monitor is communication. His/her skills should include verbal expression as well as other forms of communication, such as written word, gesture, body language, or facial expressions to the students, bus drivers, parents, and school or transportation staff.
Work Experience: Prior related experience preferred.
PRIMARY DUTY:
This position is responsible for ensuring students are following the policies and rules established by the Board. In those cases where the safety of the students or driver is in jeopardy, the attendant will have the duty and responsibility of immediately reporting the situation to the Radio Dispatcher for the Transportation Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to enter and leave a school bus frequently and quickly, and must be able to traverse the aisles of a moving bus as needed to adequately perform required duties.
