Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM. Employees may be required to work evenings and weekends on occasion. Advertised salary: $35,500. Proposed start date: 10/13/2025. Closing date: 09/10/2025 (open until filled).

This position involves experience in a mechanical or structural maintenance settingੁ. The employee assists senior trades persons in maintaining and repairing the structural components and features of the University of Georgia’s built environment. The individual demonstrates the ability to perform basic repairs and tasks independently sofá, such as minor wall damage repair, minor door adjustments, and other minor carpentry tasks.
The role is an apprentice/assistant helper; the employee accomplishes small routine maintenance tasks with limited skill development. Routine complexity includes using measuring tools, basic algebra, geometry, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of structural components. The employee frames structures using wood and metal materials and operates electric and battery‑powered tools such as circular saws, miter saws, drills, drill presses, reciprocating saws, and table saws under direct supervision.
It also involves transporting building materials over long distances, up several levels, and building scaffolding with direct supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Apprentice level.
- Assistant/Helper – accomplishes small routine maintenance tasks.
- Limited developing skillset; routine complexity.
- Use measuring tape and calculate fractions; basic algebra and geometry.
- Basic troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of structural components.
- Frame structures using wood and metal materials.
- Operate electric and battery‑powered tools such as circular saws, miter saws, drills, drill presses, reciprocating saws, table saws under direct supervision.
- Transport building materials over long distances and up several levels.
- Safely build and utilize scaffolding with direct supervision.
- Lift up to 75 lb.
- Stand, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and work with hands above head.
- Work in extreme conditions (hot and/or cold).
- Work from a standard and extended ladder.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
- Basic troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of structural components (25 %).
- Frame structures using wood and metal materials (25 %).
- Operate electric andibon battery‑powered tools such as circular saws, miter saws, drills, drill presses, reciprocating saws, table saws under direct supervision (25 %).
- Transport building materials over long distances and up several levels (10 %).
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein (10 %).
- Document in writing performed actions and timekeeping (5 %).
