Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct advanced neuroscience research using transgenic mouse models, cellular and molecular assays, and sophisticated imaging techniques. The role involves performing behavioral tests, small animal surgeries, data analysis, and collaboration with the Principal Investigator on research plans, focusing on animal models of progressive disease within the Stranahan laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in project planning and protocol development, ensuring adherence to scientific research principles and federal guidelines.
  • Conduct behavioral tests following established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain detailed records of all procedures in prescribed format.
  • Coordinate literature reviews, summarize findings, and develop applications of reported techniques.
  • Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry, PCR, real‑time PCR, western blotting, tissue culture, brain surgeries, and microscopic analysis.
  • Manage sample inventories and lab supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge in neuroscience with specialized training at the graduate and postgraduate level.
  • Strong background in cellular neuroscience and basic research in obesity pathophysiology, including expertise with transgenic mouse models and in vivo rodent behavioral and metabolic assessment.
  • Expertise in immunohistochemistry, histology, and molecular biology techniques (PCR, Western blot, cloning, promoter reporter assays).
  • Proficiency in small animal handling, behavioral testing, brain surgery, and genotyping.
  • Experience with tissue culture methods and techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related computer software/databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written (legible writing), and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, strong attention to detail, visual acuity, and fine‑motor control.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to a set schedule.
  • Ensure safe use of biological materials, proper handling of sharps, and accurate monitoring of lab inventory and supplies.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
  • Shift: Days;
    Monday – Friday (outside normal business hours may be required).
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications within the established position range.
  • This position is funded through external sources; continued employment depends on fund availability.
  • Recruitment continues until the position is filled.
  • Full‑time benefits include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or optional retirement plan), earned vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
  • After six months, full‑time employees may qualify for the Tuition Assistance Program.
