Senior Research Scientist – Immunology Center of Georgia

Job Summary

The Immunology Center of Georgia at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a Senior Research Scientist faculty position focusing on the immunology of cardiovascular disease and cardio‑oncology within the Hedrick Laboratory. The candidate will lead independent research projects aligned with the laboratory’s research program, assist with laboratory management, mentor postdoctoral fellows, coordinate the organization of clinical samples, publish peer‑reviewed manuscripts, present findings at national and international scientific meetings, and develop NIH and foundation grant applications to support their research initiatives.

This position is not on a tenure track.

Responsibilities Research – 50%
  • Design, conduct, and support basic, translational, and clinical research studies in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Perform experiments and data collection using established and emerging research methodologies.
  • Analyze and interpret research data using appropriate statistical and analytical tools.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely research records (e.g., lab notebooks, databases, regulatory files).
  • Troubleshoot experimental procedures and contribute to method development and optimization.
Grant and Funding Support – 25%
  • Assist with preparation of grant proposals, progress reports, and renewals.
  • Track research milestones and deliverables associated with funded projects.
  • Contribute to budget justifications and resource planning related to research activities.
Mentorship and Training – 25%
  • Train and supervise students, residents, fellows, or research staff in laboratory or research procedures.
  • Provide guidance on experimental techniques, data integrity, and safety practices.
  • Support a positive, respectful, and inclusive research environment.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent from an accredited college or university with at least 5 years’ research experience.
Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment is full‑time (FTE 1.0). Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to availability of funds. Employees employed for more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
