Augusta University conducts research, including human subject research through clinical trials, with strengths in conventional clinical trials, community and population health, social, behavioral, and educational research.
Job SummaryThis position will complete data entry, handle biohazards, schedule study visits, perform office duties, audit and travel.
Responsibilities- Data entry into Microsoft Excel or Access; may include data abstraction from the electronic medical record (EMR) into an electronic data capture system. May be required to learn the EMR system.
- Check temperatures of freezers and refrigerators and maintain an accurate log.
- Orient new research assistants.
- Ship blood or specimens in accordance with regulations; learn how to handle biohazard materials.
- Screen eligible patients in the EMR system.
- Answer office telephone; maintain a study file or binder.
- Schedule future study visits; if trained, measure height, weight, and vital signs in the clinic; if trained, safely draw blood for study laboratories.
- On certain occasions, may be asked to report during weekends or after hours; assist other personnel as needed.
- Run errands in the office, university, and hospital; maintain patient confidentiality; work with students in the conduct of a study.
- If needed, will be trained in aseptic techniques in the Operating Room (limited to research protocol) and may travel to outside health facilities; audit other research assistants; properly store study medications.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related natural, life, health care or materials science field, with experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
- OR
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
- Databases, operating systems, spreadsheets and Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use sound judgment and work independently.
- Ability to remember protocols, listen, and work on feet for the majority of the day.
- Shift: Days;
Monday - Friday (work outside of normal business hours may be required). - Salary: $17.88-$18.75 per hour.
- Pay Band: B5
- Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
