About the DepartmentThe Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University was founded in 1828. The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine houses core facilities and advanced imaging technologies to support cutting-edge research in cellular and molecular neuroscience.
Job SummaryA position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in the Wang laboratory. Responsibilities include participation in research data collection and documentation, development and evaluation of new techniques, lab equipment maintenance, and supervision/cooperation with lab personnel. Perform a variety of complex experiments and laboratorial management duties.
Responsibilities- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols, ensuring adherence to scientific principles and compliance with federal guidelines.
- Perform a variety of experimental studies, including cell biology and molecular biology experiments. Potential work may include animal behavioral testing, genotyping, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, and tissue collection.
- Analyze results using confocal and brightfield image analyses; develop computer programs if necessary to facilitate analysis; maintain spreadsheets documenting results.
- Maintain and update mouse colonies and inventories; coordinate with lab members and PI to track mouse strains and research needs; coordinate and perform treatment and testing of mice.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel; advise on techniques and procedures.
- Manage continuous operation of the laboratory, order supplies and animals, monitor costs, and update inventory records.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field with research experience; or
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least three years of research and/or clinical experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software/databases, or willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
- Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (work outside normal hours may be required). - Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (minimum to midpoint).
- Position may be funded through external sources; continued employment contingent on funds.
