College/Department Information

The Augusta University School of Public Health was established in 2023 to address Georgia's distinct public health challenges through exceptional education, innovative research, and collaborative community engagement. It consists of three academic departments:
Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Data Science, Community & Behavioral Health Sciences, and Health Management, Economics & Policy. The department offers a variety of degree programs, from specialized master's to doctoral programs, and emphasizes scholarly productivity with peer‑reviewed publications and grant‑funded projects.

Job Summary

A training position designed to learn, through engagement, in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of a research program. The post‑doctoral fellow will focus on the Strategically Focused Research Network on Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome:
Heterogeneity in Women, conducting cardiovascular epidemiology research, publishing in peer‑reviewed journals, and disseminating collaborative work through presentations and manuscripts.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in project planning, development of research protocols, and carry out experiments while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
  • Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
  • Teach and participate in qualitative and quantitative analysis including macro‑ and micro‑serological, histologic and cell culture procedures.
  • Coordinate and conduct research on scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques reported by other research projects.
  • Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
  • Work with students, graduate assistants and other research personnel, and advise principal investigators, postdocs and other staff on research techniques and procedures.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer‑linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in equipment operation.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Epidemiology or a closely related field. M.D./PhD candidates with experience and interest in cardiovascular disease epidemiology are also considered.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge – Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn; solid background in graduate‑level statistics and machine‑learning algorithms; proficiency in at least one popular programming language for machine learning and statistical research.

Skills – Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; good organizational skills, detail‑oriented, and ability to prioritize tasks.

Abilities – Ability to maintain confidentiality; work independently with general supervision; complete work and meet deadlines; willingness and ability to work with research animals.
