College/Department Information

Pharmacology and Toxicology was established as a department in 1943. The department focuses on cardiovascular and neuroscience research, pharmacology, and related biotechnologies. The department has a history of accomplishments including discovery work related to adrenergic receptor subtypes and the development of related therapeutics.

Job Summary

Position responsibilities include the daily performance of complex chemical, biological, and animal/tissue preparation and testing in the research laboratory. The position will assist PI, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows with procedures and data collection of research as well as general maintenance of laboratory resources and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform research experiments in a laboratory setting conducting preclinical in vitro cell culture studies. Perform animal handling, dosing, biochemical, molecular, and microscopic imaging techniques in support of current projects.
  • Analyze results of experiments using manual or computer techniques, summarize and evaluate findings, and generate figures for publication.
  • Perform animal breeding, maintenance, and genotyping.
  • Oversee basic laboratory duties such as tracking supplies and preparing solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area, and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
  • OR
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area, and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some previous experience with social/behavioral science (public health) research is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
  • Shift: Days;
    Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
  • Salary minimum: $17.88 hourly
  • Pay Band: B5
  • Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
