Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a high-acuity, Stroke and STEMI Certified facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and an active GA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities
  • Large, high-acuity general Emergency Department (non-trauma) that is Stroke and STEMI Certified
  • 59-bed ED averaging 165–175 patients per day
  • Patient population spans adolescents through geriatrics
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Uses Epic (required) and Pyxis
  • Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating is rare but may occur within the facility and within scope of practice
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Scrub color:
    Navy Blue
  • RTO maximum of 7 days for the assignment; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
  • RTO blackout dates:
    Spring Break (April 4–12)
  • Holiday coverage policy:
    If 1 or 2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO permitted; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler must be available for 2 of them with one holiday RTO request eligible for review — Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • No alternate shifts or special scheduling requests are permitted; the posted shift is firm
  • Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for at least 1 full year before returning as a traveler
  • Full compliance with onboarding requirements must be completed on time to avoid a 2-week start date delay due to the bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Candidates undergo a clinical screening review prior to manager consideration
Requirements
  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and PALS
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) are highly preferred for consideration
