The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The staff nurse functions within the framework of the organization’s policies and procedures and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice and coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
QualificationsEducation
- Graduate from a nursing program Required
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Work Experience
- No experience required;
New Graduates of a nursing program eligible (Required) - Nursing experience in hospital setting preferred
- 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions Required
Licenses and Certifications
- RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure. Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License (Required)
- BCLS – Basic Life Support (Required)
Additional Licenses and Certifications
- Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
- Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification required within 180 days;
Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date - Critical Care: ACLS Certification required within 180 days;
Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date - Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification required within 180 days; nurses new to specialty will have 6 months to obtain PALS
- Infusion/Oncology:
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration (Upon Hire) Required - Pediatrics: PALS Certification required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital; PEARS or PALS Certification required at Piedmont Athens Hospital within 180 days
- Surgical Services: ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients; BLS required within 180 days
- Womens Services:
Labor and Delivery ACLS; NRP by end of orientation; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months; NICU/NAT/ Nursery NRP by specified timelines
