The position attends to patients being transported by ambulance on emergency and non-emergency calls and is responsible for the patient's safety in route. Under the supervision of a paramedic this role delivers emergency patient care such as administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and resuscitation with an ambu bag.
This position provides emergency technical care at the scene of an accident or other emergency. Responsibilities include preparation for response, response, delivery of care, transportation, documentation, and post-response duties. May participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other programs as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions- Visually and manually check assigned EMS unit and equipment for functional readiness upon reporting for duty.
- Respond to dispatched calls within one minute of notification between 0800 and 2300; then no more than three minutes between 2300 and 0800.
- Complete Patient Care Reports and document applicable medical procedures and protocols.
- Accurately complete patient information on billing sheet and mark charge code according to the service provided.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the department’s Standing Orders and apply them appropriately when indicated.
- Cooperate with ancillary departments and agencies to assure continuity of care and completion of investigations of illness and/or accident.
- Use appropriate levels terminology/language when communicating with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.
- Replenish expended supplies/equipment and sanitize ambulance after each use.
- Assist with daily station duties and other special details as defined by the Standard Operating Procedure.
- Operate emergency vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws.
- Continuously observe patients during transfer and monitor for a change in condition; relay pertinent information and personal belongings upon arrival to the receiving facility.
- Participate in community awareness programs and public relation events as assigned.
- Follow hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens guidelines; demonstrate knowledge of protective barrier equipment.
- Ensure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
- Attend/complete annual education programs.
- Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional environment.
- Interact with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by nurse manager and peers.
- Foster mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input.
- Maintain professional composure and confidence during stressful situations; maintain open communication using appropriate chain of command.
- Conduct all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families, and fellow employees; maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information.
- Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and hospital policy.
- Display a positive attitude within the department and across departments to contribute to the overall customer service program.
- Promote effective working relations and work as part of a department/unit team to meet goals and objectives.
- Utilize shared management model to facilitate decision-making regarding practice, education, and quality improvement.
- Participate in a minimum of one staff meeting per quarter.
- Support the hospital's mission, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrate competence in using the Cerner computer system.
- Complete work assignments on time and report to work on time as scheduled in the Kronos system.
